ATM/Frame Relay
Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Frame Relay are two
types of switchable network technology. The INS ATM/Frame
Relay “Cloud” is statewide with INS POP locations
as the access points.
Switchable networks provide a method of combining numerous streams of information
or data on one circuit. This technology allows a specific Quality of Service

SS7
Since 1989, Iowa Network Services has been

Signaling System 7 (SS7) is an international signaling standard for the telephone
industry. SS7 networking is an essential component of the advanced voice and
data services for both wireline and wireless networks. By accessing the INS database
service, intelligent network services can be offered that equals the most advanced
features available anywhere.
SS7 allows services like Caller ID, Call Waiting, and Call Forwarding, Wireless
Roaming, and Local Number Portability possible, along with many others. This

Calling Name Delivery
Service (CNDS)
INS provides enhanced Caller ID to Wireline and Wireless
Carriers by providing the Calling Party's name or city and
state. We operate the largest Calling Name Database in Iowa
as well as provide access to other carrier databases throughout
the country.
